A gunman opened fire at Los Angeles International Airport this Friday morning.
A gunman identified as 23-year-old Paul Anthony Ciancia walked into Terminal 3 of Los Angeles International Airport Friday morning with a legally purchased rifle and shot four or five people, one fatally, before authorities shot and arrested him at a boarding gate.
Transportation Security Administration agent Gerardo Hernandez, a 39-year-old father of two, died in the attack. Cianici, who was unemployed and moved to Los Angeles from New Jersey, was hospitalized with gunshots to the head and leg. A signed note with anti-government and anti-TSA sentiments was found in the duffel bag he carried into the terminal. It was noted by witnesses that he was only targeting airport security personnel, and reportedly asked people if they worked for the TSA before deciding whether to shoot them or not.
The attack caused chaos, shutdowns and delays at the airport as people were evacuated and abandoned luggage had to be screened before it could be returned to them. By Saturday afternoon most flights were back on schedule. Cianci, who has been charged with murder, remains in critical condition.
