Apparently Tom Cruise hasn't heard of Match.com.
According to a new book, Scarlett Johansson, Lindsay Lohan, Kate Bosworth, Jessica Alba and Katie Holmes were asked to audition for a role opposite Tom in the Mission: Impossible series a few years back -- but what they were unwittingly vying for was the real-life role of his third wife.
The plan was allegedly concocted after Tom complained to the head of the Church of Scientology that he couldn't find a girlfriend following his breakup with Modern Family star Sofia Vergara in 2005. They reportedly split because Sofia refused to join the controversial church. So his Scientologist matchmakers, under the ruse of tryouts for a part in a blockbuster, invited the actresses to the "auditions" at the group’s Celebrity Center. Apparently Katie won. The two began dating in April 2005, wed in 2006 and divorced in 2012. The allegations are included in the upcoming book Going Clear: Scientology, Hollywood and the Prison of Belief by Lawrence Wright.
